Article from Ekoappen about technology and children.
That children today spend a lot of time in front of screens is no surprise. But have you thought about what the radiation from technology does to the baby's health? And what can we do to help protect our children?
At home, preschool, school, with friends. Yes, everywhere our children and young people spend time in front of screens and with technology.
Children are not small adults
We sometimes forget that children are not small adults. Their bodies are more sensitive and grow, which makes them more sensitive to the environment around them. Today we do not know much about how radiation from technology affects our children, which makes many people choose to take the safe before the unsafe and limited radiation.
There are two types of radiation:
- non-ionizing and high energy (as from radio, X-ray and sunlight)
- ionizers that have lower energy
Our technical gadgets emit radiation that is of the non-ionizing type.
Radiation from mobile phones and other technology - what do we know?
The short answer to the question of what we know about children and radiation is: far too little. There are no long-term studies on how the effect of sitting close to technical products that emit radiation will be. Many would like there to be clearer guidelines about what is safe and what is not, but we do not have that today.

To reduce radiation
It may not be realistic to remove that radiation and technology. It exists despite the fact that around us and for many children it is a part of social life and school work.
Reduce screen time. Number one is of course to reduce unnecessary screen time. Between the ages of 3 and 7, children should spend a maximum of 2 hours at the screen, otherwise they will not have time to do anything else that develops them. Building lego, drawing, playing and being outside are important activities that children learn what they need. If you reduce the screen time, the radiation will automatically decrease.
Increase the distance. Keep them away from the body, if the child needs it in the lap, a blanket that stops the radiation can be used. The Association of American Pediatricians points out that manufacturers cannot guarantee that the radiation absorbed by the body when, for example, a mobile phone is kept close is not harmful.
Speakers for calls. Use speakerphone function when the child is talking to friends or relatives, do not hold the phone near your head.
Put the phone in a bag or put a blanket in between. Should the child carry a telephone with them mobile bag in material that effectively stops radiation be used. There is also blankets that block radiation from technology.
Look locally. Download movies to phone or toad and then put it in airplane mode when the child is watching. This reduces the radiation.
Thick walls increase radiation. Inside metal walls as in a car. bus or train, the phone must emit more radiation to connect to its network. Therefore, be extra careful when giving the children technology then.
Watch out for the reception. Be aware of poor reception as this means that the phone or tablet must emit more radiation to make contact.
